Quake is seeking young adult and middle grade books. We are particularly interested in fast-moving adventure books for boys ages 10 and up. We’re also interested in stories with paranormal or supernatural elements. Historical and science fiction are great as well. While we would like to see books with these elements, we are always open to well-written stories with characters we love. Please see our guidelines for details on how to submit.

Servant to the Wolf by Sue Wentz
Historical-9-1-11
In 106 A.D., fifteen-year-old Marcus has a great life. He’s well-fed, well-educated, good-looking, and respected by everyone around him. Not bad for a rich man’s personal servant living in the heart of the Roman Empire. Until he comes face to face with the hazards of arrogance, bigotry, and hatred: primarily his own.
Blacksmith Lupus, the “Wolf,” will always carry the scars of slavery. A foreign-born “barbarian” and now a freedman, Lupus works his trade and lives a simple life, trying to put the past behind him.
When a twist of fate causes Marcus to tumble from his comfortable lifestyle into the ownership of Lupus, conflict erupts between the prideful slave and the humble smith. But there just might be more to Lupus than meets the eye. When danger threatens, maybe it’s not such a bad thing to be a Servant to the Wolf.
Dangerous Waters by Ann Mason
Fantasy-9-15-11
Sixteen-year-old Elizabeth’s life is no picnic. In her world, there are two competing groups-the above ground peoples and the Hybrids who live underwater. Problem is, the Hybrids have taken almost everything from the above grounders; access to clean water, food, even money. Which means that above-grounders like Elizabeth have to do what they can to survive. And if that means stealing, well, c’est la vie.
But when Elizabeth robs an elderly Hybrid of his money, she bites off more than she can chew. Before she knows it, she’s imprisoned by the Hybrids, who want to use her for their own ends. Some have her best interests at heart. Some do not. And when she finds herself on trial for a crime she didn’t commit, she must hope the friends she’s made down below can save her. If they can’t, she’ll be put to death.
