Tobias Wingate Smith, Jr. lives on the Capricorn Express, a train that runs across the entire world. He lives in a time of invention and discovery, an age of trains and airships and clockwork robots. Tobias loves nothing more than to roam the cars of the Capricorn Express and meet the people working or traveling on the train. He shares his adventures with his best friend Argy–a wind-up silver crow.
Tobias’s father is a train detective on the Capricorn Express. His job is to solve any crime committed on the train. But now Tobias’s father is missing. No one will believe Tobias that something is seriously wrong. It’s up to Tobias and Argy to solve the mystery of his disappearance.
As they travel along on they train, Tobias and Argy will encounter both passengers and crew. They will make new friends. They will face evil villains. They will help other people solve their problems.

He’s finally found quiet in a baggage car when Argy, his mechanical crow, flies at a strange sound Tobias discovers a nine-year-old girl hiding in the luggage.
The girl claims to be a princess. She says she’s hiding from evil men who were going to kidnap her. Tobias thinks the girl is only playing a game. Then the men appear. Tobias sends them on a wild goose chase. Feeling bad for her, he agrees to put aside his own quest to help the girl with her mother.
But before they can do anything, the evil men come back and Tobias, Argy, and the girl have to use all of their wits to escape them.

The Quinn Circus Extravaganza is traveling on the Capricorn Express. After his last adventure, Tobias Wingate Smith, Jr. has had Argy fixed by his friend, Professor Varana. When Professor Varana is finished, he introduces Tobias to Mr. Naidu, the big cat keeper for the circus. Mr. Naidu is fascinated by Argy, so Tobias lets him see the wind-up bird. To return the favor, Mr. Naidu takes Tobias and Professor Varana to see the lions and tigers.
However, when they reach the cage cars, they find out that one of the stars of the show is missing. Lady Sitara, the tiger, is nowhere to be found. Simon Quinn, the owner of the circus, storms in. He is convinced someone has stolen the tiger and it is loose on the train. He orders his men to search the cars.
Tobias knows something is wrong here, and he is certain that everything is not as it seems with the Quinn Circus Extravaganza. Can Tobias and Argy figure out who has stolen the tiger and why?
